Jay Waite is a lifelong plant professional with deep roots in nursery, landscaping, and garden center operations. His passion for plants began at an early age, inspired by his parents’ love of nature and the joy it brings to everyday life.
Jay studied horticulture through coursework at Delaware Community College and Longwood Gardens, gaining hands-on experience while working in nurseries and managing private estates throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. He joined Leon’s Garden World in 1998 and has been an integral part of its growth ever since, becoming a partial owner in 2015.
As Owner and Master Gardener, Jay specializes in plant identification, care, and habitat design for trees, shrubs, perennials, and ponds. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge with customers and takes pride in helping others create thriving, beautiful gardens they can enjoy for years to come.
Ann Waite brings creativity, warmth, and a keen eye for beauty to every corner of Leon’s Garden World. An avid nature and flower photographer, Ann is the voice behind the garden center’s social media and marketing efforts, capturing the seasonal moments that make LGW so special.
At Leon’s Garden World, Ann helps shape the brand’s visual storytelling and customer experience, ensuring that the personality, passion, and expertise behind the business shine through both online and in person. She has a natural talent for connecting with customers and creating a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere.

I’d highly recommend this location. (I actually drive past another location to come to this one.) Jay is absolutely wonderful at what he does. I was so grateful for his knowledge when looking for some trees/bushes for our landscaping. Such a great selection here. And Ann is wonderful, too. Both great people with such kind hearts. IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR PLANTS, GO HERE!!! Not only are the staff so welcoming and helpful, but they also have an incredible variety of rare indoor and outdoor plants. They care a lot about the quality and processing of their plants, checking for pests and removing dead or decaying leaves. Very reasonably priced too! Excellent variety of plants, and all in good health. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Prices on many items are comparable to or even better than the big box stores. Parking is admittedly a pain, but don’t let that stop you.

Gotta love walking in to Leon’s to just get a huge big ” Welcome Chris” from Antoinette such a warm and welcoming shop to buy your house plants from, they have a huge selection and not only do they have great prices their plants are all hand picked out by the owners so your definitely getting your money’s worth!!! They even started doing classes up at the store, I might even be on of the new teachers for the propagation class.
